Karan Johar, renowned for launching fresh talent, is preparing for a new installment of the popular high-school franchise, ‘Student of the Year (SOTY), as a web series on Disney+Hotstar.
This version, ‘Student of the Year 3’, will spotlight Shanaya Kapoor, daughter of Sanjay Kapoor and Maheep Kapoor. Shanaya, making her acting debut with Mohanlal’s film ‘Vrushabha,’ will enter the OTT sphere with this series.
The show is currently in its writing stage and is expected to start production in the last quarter of 2023. Although details remain undisclosed, it’s known that the project is being developed under Dharma’s digital wing, Dharmatic Entertainment. A director is to be appointed within the month.
‘Student of the Year 3’ is set to provide a global platform for Shanaya and other newcomers. The casting process for supporting roles is ongoing. This move makes SOTY the second Hindi film franchise to venture into OTT, following Disney+Hotstar’s web series development based on Vidyut Jammwal’s “Commando.”
The SOTY series is Dharmatic Entertainment’s second project with Disney+Hotstar after Emraan Hashmi’s ‘Showtime.’ Despite reaching out to Dharma Productions, Shanaya Kapoor, and Disney+Hotstar, they’ve yet to respond.
