Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, celebrated for his roles in patriotic films like “Airlift” and “Rustom,” marked India’s 77th Independence Day with a significant personal announcement.
Putting to rest past criticisms, Akshay declared his decision to give up his Canadian citizenship in favor of Indian citizenship. Over the years, the actor faced scrutiny and was often trolled for holding Canadian citizenship while championing nationalistic themes in his films.
Taking to Twitter, Akshay kumar showcased a photograph of the legal documentation and captioned it in Hindi, “Dil aur citizenship, dono Hindustani (Heart and Citizenship are both Indian).
Happy Independence Day! Jai Hind!” The move garnered overwhelming support from fans, many of whom sent congratulatory messages and cheekily declared ‘RIP’ to past trolls.
Although this announcement may have come as a surprise to some, Akshay had been transparent about his inclination to reclaim Indian citizenship in past interviews, adding gravitas to his decision to make the declaration on such a symbolic day for the nation.
Professionally, the actor is riding high on the recent release of “OMG 2” on August 11. In this movie, Akshay took on the unique role of Lord Shiva’s messenger and collaborated with notable actors such as Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam.
