Recently, a Mumbai court dismissed the extortion charge against renowned lyricist Javed Akhtar, which actress Kangana Ranaut filed. The case revolves around a public dispute between Kangana and actor Hrithik Roshan.

According to Kangana’s plea, she alleged that Javed Akhtar had summoned her and her sister, Rangoli Chandel, to his residence in March 2016 and demanded an apology from her to Hrithik Roshan.

The court ruled that “asking a person to give a written apology will not come under the definition of valuable security… because no legal right is created, extended, transferred, restricted, extinguished, or released,” as reported by India Today.

However, the court acknowledged the plea that Akhtar had called Kangana and her sister to his house maliciously, criminally intimidating and threatening the actress.

He allegedly coerced her into tendering a written apology to her co-star, Hrithik Roshan, creating a document (valuable security) in favour of him.

The origin of the legal dispute dates back to an interview in which Kangana Ranaut supposedly made defamatory remarks against Javed Akhtar following the untimely demise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput on July 14, 2020.

Subsequently, Akhtar filed a defamation case against Kangana in 2020. In response, the actress filed a complaint against Akhtar, claiming she was forced to apologize to Hrithik Roshan.

Kangana Ranaut had sought the complaint under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 383, 384, 387, 503, 506, 509, 44, and 30. However, the court issued the complaint under sections 506 and 509.

This court ruling marks a significant development in the ongoing legal battle between Kangana Ranaut and Javed Akhtar. While the extortion charge has been dropped, the defamation case filed by Akhtar against Kangana is likely to continue, and further proceedings may shed light on the intricacies of their public feud.

As the news unfolds, the entertainment industry and the public eagerly await updates on this high-profile case, which has been a subject of intense media attention since its inception.
