On Monday, February 26th, the famous singer Pankaj Udhas passed away at 11 AM in Breach Candy Hospital. His funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the Hindu Crematorium in Worli, Mumbai.
The cause of death of the veteran ghazal singer is reportedly pancreatic cancer. Despite fighting the ailment for a long, Pankaj lost his life to the deadly disease at the age of 72.
His daughter Nayaab Udhas shared the news on Instagram, expressing, “With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February 2024 due to prolonged illness.”
Many celebrities and renowned singers like Sonu Nigam, Vishal Bhardwaj, and Shankar Mahadevan attended his last rites with his family and friends.
The hospital where his treatment was undergoing also stated a note on his death, “This is not only a personal loss, but the whole nation has lost a prolific singer and a great human being.”
Pankaj Udhaas was born on May 17, 1951, in Navagadh village of Jetpur, Gujarat. He is best remembered for lending his soulful voice to several iconic tracks. His most praised classics like “Chitti Ayi Hai,” “Chandi Jaisa Rang,” and “Jeeye To Jeeye Kaise” in the film ‘Saajan’ left an indelible mark. He gave many hits to the Indian music industry in the 90s. He died on 26th Feb 2024 of pancreatic tumor after undergoing various chemotherapies and treatments.
