Actress Ameesha Patel recently shed light on her long hiatus from Bollywood, attributing her absence to the industry’s trend of producing forgettable films.

Ameesha lamented the decline in the quality of movies compared to the times of ‘Humraaz’, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa‘, and ‘Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd’, films that showcased a different kind of cinema that she believes are rare today.

She stated her belief that current Bollywood films don’t measure up to the opportunities she had earlier in her career. Patel recalled that movies like ‘Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd’ didn’t exist in her prime, suggesting a distinct shift in Bollywood’s creative direction. She credited Farhan Akhtar’s production house with having the foresight to cultivate this novel cinematic landscape.

Discussing her upcoming film ‘Gadar 2’, the actress expressed her hope that the sequel to the 2001 hit will reignite her career and bring more rewarding opportunities. In ‘Gadar 2’, Patel co-stars with Sunny Deol, with whom she shares what she described as “magical” on-screen chemistry. She emphasized the deep bond between their characters and the pivotal role of family in the narrative.

Patel, who was often labelled ‘too educated’ for the industry, has never shied away from taking risks and accepting challenges throughout her career. She expressed her longing for more significant roles that actors could truly immerse themselves in, a feature she feels is currently lacking in the industry.

‘Gadar 2’, which also stars Utkarsh Sharma, is set to release on August 11, 2023. As Patel navigates her path back to Bollywood, her fans and the industry eagerly await to see if ‘Gadar 2’ indeed brings her the fresh opportunities she hopes for.
